Upcoming Elections

General Election: On November 3, 1998, in the general election, the following offices will be elected on a partisan ballot. the Delegate to the House of Representatives, the Mayor, the Chairman of the City Council, two at-large members of the Council, the US Representative (Shadow Congressman), and Ward Councilmembers for Wards 1, 3, 5, and 6. Each political party will select (either through the primary election or another process determined by the party) one candidate to run for the at-large Councilmember seats, and independent candidates will also run in the general election. Voters can vote for either one or two candidates for the at-large seats. Regardless of party or independent status, the top two vote-getters will be elected, to fill the seats currently held by David Catania and Hilda H.M. Mason. The following non-partisan offices will also be on the ballot: an at-large member of the Board of Education (to fill the seat currently occupied by Jay Silberman); Ward members of the Board of Education for Wards 2, 4, 7, and 8; and Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners.

General Election Candidates

The following candidates have picked up petitions to run as indiependents in the general election. Click on a link to reach either the candidate’s independent campaign web site or, if the candidate does not have a web site, to the candidate’s campaign materials on the DCWatch site. Campaign materials on the DCWatch web site are not edited except to format them to fit a web page and to eliminate any direct fundraising appeals. Party candidates will be added to this listing after they have been decided in the primary election.

In each of the following charts, the “pick-up” date is the day that the candidate (or his or her representative) picked up petitions, and the “filing” date is the date that completed petitions were filed with the Board of Elections and Ethics.
