Primary election calendar

Primary Election: On September 15, 1998, the Democratic, Republican, DC Statehood, and Umoja parties had primary elections to nominate candidates for the November 3, 1998 general election. Only voters who are registered members of their parties are allowed to vote in party primaries. The following offices were on the primary ballots: Delegate to the House of Representatives, Mayor, Council Chairman, At-Large Member of the Council, US Representative (the "Shadow Congressman"), and Ward Councilmembers for Wards 1, 3, 5, and 6.

Primary Election Candidates

The following candidates picked up petitions to run in their parties’ primaries to be candidates in the general election. Click on a link to reach either the candidate’s independent campaign web site or, if the candidate does not have a web site, to the candidate’s campaign materials on the DCWatch site. Campaign materials on the DCWatch web site are not edited except to format them to fit a web page and to eliminate any direct fundraising appeals.

In each of the following charts, candidates are grouped by party and listed alphabetically within party; the “pick-up” date is the day that the candidate (or his or her representative) picked up petitions, and the “filing” date is the date that completed petitions were filed with the Board of Elections and Ethics.
