Statement of Mayor Anthony A. Williams on Order of the Director of the Office Campaign Finance Regarding School Governance Charter Amendment Act of 2000

"I respect the order of the District Columbia's Office of Campaign Finance regarding School Governance Charter Amendment Act of 2000. My office has already acted in compliance with this order.

"The June 27th' special election is very important to the future of our schools and the education of our children. While I intend to honor the letter and spirit of today's order - we will not use government resources to advocate on this issue - I do intent to continue speaking out personally on behalf of the Charter amendment. Also consistent with today's order, I will continue to use the full force of my office to educate our citizens on this important matter.

"I believe this referendum will be determined on its merits by the voters of this city. I'd like to thank the Office of Campaign Finance for its swift response on this issue so that we can now focus on the real issue - the education of our young people."
