A PROPOSED RESOLUTION IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

To confirm the appointment of Mr. Vannie Taylor, III to the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.

RESOLVED, BY HE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this resolution may be cited as the “Alcoholic Beverage Control Board Vannie Taylor, III Confirmation Resolution of 1998”.

Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia confirms the appointment of:

as chairman of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, established by section 4(a) of the District of Columbia Alcoholic Beverage Control Act, effective May 24, 1994 (D.C. Law 10-122; D.C. Code §25-104(a), completing the unexpired term of Barbara Lee Smith, whose term will end May 7, 2000.

Sec. 3. The Council of the District of Columbia shall transmit a copy of this resolution, upon its adoption, each to the nominee and to the Office of the Mayor.

Sec. 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately.

LEGAL EXPERIENCE

July, 1984 - Present: VANNIE TAYLOR, III Private Practice:

General civil litigation; i.e. personal injury, probate, and specializing in real property development and corporate defense litigation, representing businesses and institutions in tort claims filed against the same.

December, 1987 - February, 1988: UNITED STATES VIRGIN ISLANDS, DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, OFFICE OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL, Assistant Attorney General:

Reported to the Principal Assistant Attorney general. Responsibilities included training and supervising new and inexperienced attorneys and represented the Government of the Virgin Islands as defense counsel to a variety of tort litigation, i.e. personal injury, property damage, wrongful death and medical malpractice matters. Other responsibilities included the prosecution of some criminal matters, i.e. H-R 12 Radar Speed Measurement, a case of first impression which presented significant issues of territorywide importance to law enforcement.

July, 1980 - July, 1984: DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA OFFICE OF CORPORATION COUNSEL. Civil Division, Assistant Corporation Counsel:

Corporate defense litigation: responsibilities included representing the District of Columbia government and City officials in wide variety of complex tort litigation, i.e. medical malpractice and other personal injury and/or wrongful death matters.

July, 1977 - July, 1980: NEIGHBORHOOD LEGAL SERVICES, Appellate Division, Law Reform Litigation, Staff Attorney:

Responsible for Law Reform litigation in areas of substantial impact on NLSP clients. also worked with the managing attorney to provide training and supervision of attorneys, paralegals, law clerks, volunteers and other Neighborhood Legal Services staff.
