Statement From Mayor Anthony A. Williams
Carol Schwartz Entering General Election

I want to thank Democratic and Republican voters for making me their choice for Mayor during the primary campaign. I welcome Carol Schwartz into the race for Mayor of the District of Columbia. This is one of the most important jobs in government -- it requires commitment, leadership, compassion and vision. This race is about leadership -- and who has exhibited the leadership the District needs to get us through tough times and difficult issues such as the current budget shortfall and Washington needs someone with experience and commitment -- now more than ever.

Over the next four years, I will continue to work hard to strengthen the City financially and expand opportunity for all our residents throughout the City. I will continue to increase affordable housing for working families. I will search for ways to improve public education in the District so that all of our children finish high school prepared for college or the work world. I will continue to expand job opportunities by bringing companies into the City that will bring jobs to our neighborhoods.

I will continue to campaign door-to-door, talking to each and every voter throughout the City. We have laid a strong foundation for the future. Every ward has seen progress under my leadership yet much remains to be done. Together with the voters of the District we will make Washington stronger, better and full of promise for all.
