Vote YES Referendum A
An Elected District Attorney for DC
General Election November 5, 2002
VOTING YES ON REFERENDUM A FOR AN ELECTED DISTRICT
ATTORNEY SAYS:
- WE WANT THE HOME RULE PROMISED TO US ALMOST 30
YEARS AGO
- WE ARE TAKING A MAJOR STEP CLOSER TO HOME RULE
- WE WANT A DISTRICT ATTORNEY WHO IS CHOSEN BY DC
VOTERS AND IS ACCOUNTABLE ONLY TO THE PEOPLE
WHAT IS REFERENDUM A?
Referendum A is a ballot question on the General
Election ballot this November 5. It asks Washington, DC voters to decide
if they want their own District Attorney's Office headed by a District
Attorney who is elected by them.
WHY SHOULD I SUPPORT REFERENDUM A?
Voting for Referendum A says we want Home Rule, and
electing our own District Attorney would be a major step in achieving Home
Rule. We deserve an elected District Attorney who is accountable only to
us. An elected District Attorney would make DC a better place to live by
focusing more attention on neglected areas such as quality-of-life crimes,
protecting consumers and public integrity issues. An elected District
Attorney would be more efficient because one office would prosecute all
crime.
WHO IS SUPPORTING REFERENDUM A?
- DC Citizens who support self-governance
- The Mayor and all the members of the DC council
-
Business, Labor and Community Leaders
- Organizations that have been fighting for Home Rule
for DC
