AN ACT IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

To amend the Redistricting Procedure Act of 1981 to redefine the ward boundaries within the District of Columbia.

Sec. 2. Section 4 of the Redistricting Procedure Act of 1981, effective March 16, 1982 (D.C. Law 4-87; D.C. Official Code § 1-1041.03), is amended to read as follows:

"(a) The Council adopts the following election ward boundaries to be effective January 1, 2002. and to be used in all elections held after February 1, 2002, in the District of Columbia:

"WARD I

"(b) Except where otherwise indicated, the boundary line is the center of the street.".

This bill will have no fiscal impact as it makes no changes to the law other than to redefine the boundaries of the existing 8 election wards as required by federal and District of Columbia law. All expenses related to this bill and identified by the Chief Financial Officer have been budgeted for in the Board of Elections and Ethics Fiscal Year 2002 budget.

Sec. 4. Effective date.

This act shall take effect following approval by the Mayor (or in the event of veto by the Mayor, action by the Council to override the veto), approval by the Financial Responsibility and Management Assistance Authority as provided in section 203(a) of the District of Columbia Financial Responsibility and Management Assistance Act of 1995, approved April 17, 1995 (109 Stat. 116; D.C. Official Code § 47-392.03(a)), a 30-day period of Congressional review as provided in section 602(c)(1) of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, approved December 24, 1973 (87 Stat. 813; D.C. Official Code §1-206.02(c)(1)), and publication in the District of Columbia Register.
