From what I understand, the Chief's salary will be increase to more than $200, 000 annually, from the low $100,000 that it is presently. Chief Ramsey has been doing an excellent job, and we want to keep him in the District. The salary increase will not be unusually high for other jurisdictions, but it is a significant increase that City Council is now challenging. We want Latinos to come forward in support of Chief Ramsey and his employment contract renewal for the Tuesday, June 17, 2003 hearing before City Council at 12pm at 1350 Pennsyvania Avenue. Phone calls and emails to City Council members as well as testimony at the Tuesday hearing would make a tremendous difference. Would you please contact me via email (christia.alou@dc.gov) or phone (202)671-2825 to tell me which City Council members you will contact or if you will be testifying in support of Chief Ramsey's contract renewal on Tuesday, June 17th. All testimony must be in writing and 20 copies should be taken with you to the hearing on Tuesday.
I hope to hear from you soon in this matter, and I look forward to seeing those of you who will testify at Tuesday's hearing. Muchas gracias, Date: Mon, 16 Jun 2003 16:15:58 -0400 Dear Friend: Last Friday, June 13, 2003, my office sent out an email to a broad distribution list that should not have been sent out. The email message urged recipients to contact members of the City Council and express support for the proposed salary and benefit increases to Chief Ramsey's employment contract. The Council will hold a hearing on this matter tomorrow. The message was intended for distribution to the Mayor's Commission on Latino Community Development and to the employees of the Mayor's Office on Latino Affairs (OLA). Unfortunately, an employee in our office mistakenly forwarded the message to a much broader list of contacts which should not have happened. To add to the problem, the factual information in the message was also incorrect. Chief Ramsey's base pay is currently $150,000. The new contract calls for a base pay of $175,000. If you received this earlier message and you are not a member of the Mayor's Commission on Latino Community Development or an employee of OLA, please disregard the message and accept my sincere apologies.
