MAYOR VINCENT C. GRAY NAMES EXPERIENCED PROFESSIONALS AS CHIEF OF
STAFF AND DEPUTY CHIEF OF STAFF
Obama Administration Official and Political Communications
Expert to Help Lead Mayor's Administration
Today, Mayor Vincent C. Gray named two experienced government and
political professionals to lead his team. Christopher Murphy has been
named Chief of Staff and Andrea Pringle has been named Deputy Chief of
Staff.
"Chris Murphy and Andi Pringle bring vast experience, expertise,
political acumen and understanding of multiple aspects of how a government
like the District's functions," said Mayor Gray. "More
importantly, they are committed to ensuring we have an ethical,
accountable and transparent administration that continues working hard to
advance my vision of 'One City' moving forward together."
Chris Murphy served as Deputy Chief of Staff at the U.S. Department of
Housing and Urban Development (HUD). In this role, he supported HUD
Secretary Shaun Donovan and the Chief of Staff by coordinating HUD's
public affairs, congressional and intergovernmental affairs and public
engagement functions.
Prior to joining the Obama Administration, Murphy was General Counsel
and Executive Director for Human Resources at Atlantic Media Company,
which publishes The Atlantic and National Journal, two of the nation's
most respected political magazines. Previously, he founded and led City
Year Washington, DC, the award-winning local chapter of the AmeriCorps
national service program. He has also worked in the Clinton
Administration, as an attorney at Hogan & Hartson (now Hogan Lovells)
and as a staffer for the late Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.).
As Chief of Staff for the Gray Administration, Murphy will oversee and
manage all operational elements of the Executive Office of the Mayor
(EOM).
"I am extremely pleased to have Chris as my Chief of Staff,"
said Mayor Gray. "I have known and respected him for many years.
Chris shares my passion for this city and, combined with his extensive
experience in management and administration, he will be a great asset to
the District."
Murphy received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University and a
J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, both with honors. He is a
member of the Massachusetts and D.C. bars. A Longtime District resident,
he lives in Ward 4 with his wife, George Washington Law School Professor
Laurie Kohn, and their two children, who both attend D.C. Public Schools.
Andi Pringle comes to the position of Deputy Chief of Staff from her
own political consulting firm, Pringle Communications Group, Inc. She is a
veteran of local and national political campaigns, including the 2003-2004
White House bid by former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean. She has extensive
experience in political and non-profit communications, serving as
Communications Director for the NAACP National Voter Fund, as a
communications officer and consultant for George Soros's Open Society
Institute and as a communications and outreach strategist for former
Illinois Senator Carol Moseley Braun's 1998 re-election campaign.
As Deputy Chief of Staff in the Gray Administration, Andi will manage
all communications and public-engagement efforts.
"Andi has broad-based experience in engaging and organizing people
at the national and local level," said Mayor Gray. "Her skill
set will help us strengthen the communications and administrative feedback
loop between our administration and the community."
A graduate of Howard University and Strayer University, Ms. Pringle
will move back into the District. |
