Scary Halloween
Dear Masked Marauders:
I want to hear the stirring speech about how the US Attorney’s office
takes government corruption seriously, and how everyone ought to respect
the awesome might of the federal government, when the government
presents its sentencing recommendations in the trial of former city
council chairman Kwame Brown: "six days
of incarceration – to be served on weekends – followed by three years of
supervised release,"
http://www.dcwatch.com/council/ethics121101.pdf.
Isn’t that the same penalty that councilmembers want to impose for a
parking violation? Ooh, scary. That will really deter corruption. The
cooperation that Brown has supposedly been giving the US Attorney’s
office better prove worthwhile.

Gary, are you saying [themail, October 28] Ron’s campaign is a joke
against Alexander? I think he has mounted a spirited, welcomed
challenge, and wish that kind of energy resided in Ward 4 (where I live)
against Muriel Bowser.
[If you aren’t satisfied with the level of corruption we have at
present in our city’s government, and wish our elected officials would
come already preconvicted, Ron Moten offers the kind of leadership you
should welcome. If you don’t know about Moten, you won’t learn much
about his background from the Washington Post, which not only
endorsed him in the Ward 7 councilmember race, but also published a puff
piece by Mike DeBonis about him today,
http://tinyurl.com/a6eavhl. The Post
is determined to present the Adrian Fenty administration and its allies
as untainted by any hint of scandal, and Moten falls under their
protective shield. He doesn’t deserve it.
[Here’s a reading and viewing list so you can do your own research.
For background, see his featured role in the American Gangster
television series, Season 3, Episode 4, which first aired on November
13, 2008,

about Peacoholics: http://tinyurl.com/8g3rug9, http://tinyurl.com/3gc3bgg,

and Loose Lips have written about Moten over the past several years.
[As I’ve written in themail over the years, nothing would improve
politics in DC more — nothing would improve the local Democratic party
more — than strong, competitive Republican challengers. Ron isn’t it. —
