Our Gang
Dear Gang:
All right, I’ll admit that there are some things that make me feel
that I am exactly the grumpy old curmudgeon that I sometimes pretend to
be — that I’m not pretending at all. Here’s one: a warning on a
Warner Brothers DVD of Hal Roach’s Our Gang or Little Rascals comedy
shorts: “The Our Gang Collection is intended for the adult collector
and is not suitable for children.”
I can’t imagine anything more suitable for children, or anything
that children enjoy more than the comic adventures of a group of
misbehaving youngsters. Today, in the guise of entertainment, children
are given only the blandest, most uninteresting, pastel-colored cartoons
with preachy environmental messages. That’s not suitable for children;
it’s deadly dull. But Spanky and Alfalfa and Buckwheat and Darla —
that’s entertainment.
#####
Here’s another thing that makes me a curmudgeon. The house to the
west of ours was being gutted and renovated in December when a
four-story rear addition collapsed. The house to the east of ours was
being gutted and renovated today when the rear wall collapsed, making
the rest of the house unstable and likely to fall.
Stop it; just stop it. I’m tired of reporting that everything is
falling down all around us.
By the way, that’s why this issue of themail is being sent as just
plain text, and won’t be posted to the web for another day or two. It’s
making me grumpy for real.

Littering Fines in Only One Ward?
Lawanda Williams, lwilliams@CFTC.gov
I am a new resident in ward 8, and love where I am living. My one
dislike is the trash that is normally on the streets and yards! If there
will be fines for littering in Ward 4, why not make it universal for
each and every ward?

Why Not Check Income Tax Records
R. Weiss, rweiss@weisslip.com
To get a better idea of Ms. Pringle’s “residency intentions”
someone should check into whether she listed her home in Maryland as her
“homestead” for real estate purposes, whether she paid DC or
Maryland income taxes, and what she stated as her residency in her
federal IRS filing. Someone should check into this to determine her “true
intentions.”
