Leukemia Society of America Fundraiser

On Tuesday, October 29, a fundraiser happy hour will be held at the Bethesda Theater Cafe to benefit the Leukemia Society of America. The evening will honor the memory of Michael Manning, a much-loved employee of the locally based Discovery Channel, who lost his battle with leukemia earlier this year. The event will also show support for 5 ½ year old Ian Kirk of Rockville who is currently doing well in his fight against lymphoma.

The fundraiser will run from 5:30 to 7PM. Light snacks and soft drinks will be provided. Everyone in attendance will be eligible to win a growing list of door prizes to be raffled, including gift certificates to Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Planet Hollywood, the cruise ship Dandy and tickets to Baltimore Ravens’ games and the Redskins/49ers game on 11/24.

Suggested donation is $3. Anyone donating $5 or more, will automatically receive a pass to a Sunday-Thursday screening at the Bethesda Theater Cafe. The theater is also donating 50 cents from each regular 8PM screening of Independence Day that night to the Leukemia Society of America.

Wayward Cat Seeks Good Home

My neighbor recently found a young male Manx cat; she can’t keep him because she already has four cats and three dogs (insert your own punch line here). For you interior decorating buffs looking to coordinate your accessories, he’s "gray with pink undertones," whatever that means. She says he has a sweet disposition, and I’m assuming he knows how to use a litter box (otherwise she wouldn’t think he’s so sweet). I don’t know if he’s been neutered, but that can be fixed (I just couldn’t help myself - I had to say it).

Please let me know if you’re interested in taking him home. I’m really begging you to save me from myself - even though I’m allergic to cats and really a dog person, I’ve already picked out a name, and am thinking about all the little toys I could buy him.

1962 Coke Machine

Looking to find a new home for my unrestored, but functioning, 1962 Coca-Cola vending machine. It is a Westinghouse, one of the last made (I am told), and is a "pre-select" model; that is, it has a center knob which you turn to select the drink before putting in your money. Further details on request. My sister is currently storing it in her apartment in Alexandria and it is available for inspection there. Best offer takes it!

I am in the market for a new Powerbook. However, I am finding it difficult to find a retail store in the Washington area which sells Powerbooks and also has the staff and expertise to answer my questions. I know I am asking for a lot here and will settle for just the store (I can find the expertise elsewhere). Does anyone know of such a store in this area? Or barring that, a national distributor. When I buy my new Powerbook, I will be selling my old one; a store which takes trade-ins would also be most welcome.
