Jesse Jackson Retires

Dear Neighbors:

John Mercurio of the Washington Times reports today that Jesse Jackson will not seek reelection as one of the District's two "shadow" senators. In a line I wish I wrote, Mercurio says, "The Rev. Jesse Jackson, a nationally know preacher with no church, will soon become a politician with no office."

I'm preparing a "context" article for publication and am requesting your help answering two (slightly loaded) questions.

bulletDid Jesse Jackson advanced the cause of statehood?
bulletWhat did Jesse Jackson do to advance the cause of statehood?

These are essay questions. Evidence counts. No # 2 pencil necessary.

Happy 4th of July,

Jeffrey Itell
