COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF
COLUMBIA
WASHINGTON, D.C. 20001
May 6, 2002
Honorable Anthony A. Williams
Mayor, District of Columbia
John A. Wilson Building
1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W.
Washington, D.C. 20004
Dear Mayor Williams:
We, the undersigned members of the Council of the District of Columbia,
("Council"), call upon you to request the resignation of Ronnie
Few, Fire Chief of the D.C. Fire Department ("DCFD"). The basis
for this action includes the resume inaccuracies of Chief Few and his top
assistants, lack of forthrightness with the Council, low morale in the
Fire Department, the need for a concise plan to refurbish the city's
firehouses, and the various other programmatic problems within the
Department. Among other recurring problems, there have been appalling
systemic issues concerning communications, equipment, the lack of HAZMAT
and disaster training, and Chief Few's misrepresentation of the progress
of DCFD to the Council during budget hearings.
We are calling upon you to restore public confidence in DCFD and its
leadership by taking this action for the reasons cited.
Sincerely,
Adrian Fenty
