Howland to Serve as Interim Director of Department of Public Works(Washington, DC) Mayor Anthony A. Williams announced today that he has appointed William O. Howland, Jr. as Interim Director of the Department of Public Works. Former director, Leslie Hotaling, officially ended her tenure with the District government today. Since 2002, Mr. Howland has served as the Chief of Staff to the Deputy Mayor for Operations where he worked extensively with officials at the Department of Public Works. Prior to 2002, Mr. Howland served as the Deputy Director of the District Department of Human Services and previously he worked in a variety of positions for the Fairfax County government. A national search for a permanent director of the Department of Public Works is underway. Mayor Williams looks forward to having permanent leadership in place as soon as possible. The Department of Public Works provides environmental services, including trash, recycling and street and alley cleaning to every resident, visitor and business in the District. The Department is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and attractiveness of the District's gateway corridors, commercial areas, residential neighborhoods and industrial zones. |
