Seniors Endorse Williams For Mayor

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Council of Senior Citizens endorsed Anthony Williams for mayor Thursday, praising his commitment to programs vital to the city's elderly — including long-term care, health, social, and community services.

“Without leaders like Anthony Williams going to bat for older Americans, we would have no hope of protecting programs that provide this city's elderly with vital services,” said Joe Ervin, Director of Political Education for NCSC, one of the nation's oldest and most respected senior organizations.

Ervin lauded Williams' support of the Senior Service Network which provides jobs for older Americans, legal consultation to prevent fraud and abuse, care in the home, and community and social programs.

Williams has pledged to support rent control, Metro discounts, and transportation vouchers as well as increase transportation services for frail and disabled residents of the city, many of whom are elderly.

Ervin also praised the candidate's plan to increase safety and security services for the elderly and involve them in assisting with youth programs.
