STATEMENT OF DEMOCRATIC MAYORAL NOMINEE ANTHONY WILLIAMS ON
ENDORSEMENT BY COUNCILMEMBER KEVIN P. CHAVOUS
Today I welcome the support of Councilmember Kevin P. Chavous as we work together
with all members of the Democratic Party toward victory in the November 3rd general
election.
It was a hard fought campaign, but one that identified major issues facing the
District. Mr. Chavous, as well as the other democratic candidates in the primary,
articulated a number of innovative, sound policy approaches to the challenges ahead
particularly regarding education and leadership for our young people, services to our
senior citizens, and economic development in our neighborhoods. Together well strive
to turn these campaign promises into policies as we make D.C. work for all of us.
As Kevin and I agreed many times throughout the primary, this is one of the most
critical elections in the District of Columbia, not just for the Office of Mayor but for
the City Council and Board of Education. A united Democratic party, speaking with one
voice on behalf of all the citizens of the District of Columbia, will be victorious in
November. And it will provide the leadership to bring the city together into one
government and return self-government to the District of Columbia.
