Making D.C. work for us

Anthony Williams did’t just create a budget surplus for D.C.

He created hope.

The skeptics said the District’s best days were long past.
But they never met Anthony Williams.

When Anthony Williams took D.C. out of fiscal chaos, he found ways to fund programs to help children, seniors and our neighborhoods.

Conventional wisdom has it that Anthony Williams is a wizard with numbers. It’s true that he turned a $74 millions deficit into a $185 million surplus. And Anthony found millions owed to D.C. from the federal government.

But it’s never just been about numbers to Anthony Williams. It’s always been about helping people — making schools better for our kids, housing more livable for our seniors and streets safer for everyone.

Making D.C. work for us

The Williams Plan:

Building hope. Making D.C. work for us.

Strong Families

  • Help families find quality jobs and gain access to affordable, quality, health care so they can raise their children in a healthy, caring environment.
  • Help low- and moderate-income families become homeowners

Sound Finances

  • Make sure our City’s finances remain solid so that we can invest our resources in our children, seniors, and our communities.
  • Continue to identify federal funds that can be used for child care, job training, and social services.

Better Schools

  • Make sure that our schools are managed at the neighborhood level where teachers, parents and principals work together to make sure our children receive the highest quality education.
  • Make sure our schools open on time and remain open after school so our kids can continue to learn in a safe environment.

Safe Neighborhoods

  • Establish real neighborhood policing where police officers work with residents of the community to prevent crime.
  • Transfer 1,000 uniformed officers from behind desks into the streets where they can make a real difference in our city.
