John Gaines Gloster Jr.
Mayor

Mr. Gloster is the current Chairman of the DC Statehood Party. He is an independent financial planner, and is enrolled in the evening program at the Georgetown University Law Center. Previously, Mr. Gloster was an investment banker and stockbroker, as well as a business owner. Mr. Gloster is a graduate of Amherst College, with a BA in political science, and an emphasis on political economics.

Many will remember Mr. Gloster's father John “Jack” Gloster, Sr., who served the District in many ways for most of his life.

Ms. Pat Kidd
Delegate to Congress

Ms. Kidd is the Founder and Executive Director of American Women and Associates Against Sexual Harassment (AWAAASH), which promotes equality of rights for women and families at home, school, the courts and in the workplace. Ms. Kidd is also a freelance consultant, and the ANC Commissioner for 41104. In 1994, Ms. Kidd was a candidate for D.C. Council, Ward 4. She attended Brookwein School of Business, Montgomery College, University of the District of Columbia and Murrell Real Estate Academy.

Ms. Kidd has held various positions with the Department of Treasury, Executive Office of the President, Walter Reed Hospital, and the District of Columbia's Department of Administrative Services. In District Government, she was called upon to implement various citywide reforms.

Joseph Romanow
Chairman of the City Council

Joseph Romanow, a six year resident of Washington is the Recorder/Archivist of the DC Statehood Party. In Mr. Romanow’s professional life, he works as a pricing analyst for an international telecommunications carrier headquartered in Washington, DC. Mr. Romanow previously worked for a private telecommunications consultancy on U. S. and foreign government-sponsored development projects and private sector business development and marketing projects in South America, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia. Mr. Romanow graduated from Georgetown University with a B. S. in International Politics, Law, and Organizations; and a minor in Latin America Studies. Mr. Romanow also speaks Spanish.

Hilda H.M. Mason
City Council At-Large

Hilda Howland M. Mason was born in Campbell County, Virginia, on June 14, 1916. She moved to the District of Columbia in 1945.

Ms. Mason has been a teacher, counselor, supervising instructor, and an assistant principal in the District of Columbia Public Schools. She has authored research and professional studies and has served as an educational consultant and lecturer.

Ms. Mason served on the District of Columbia Board of Education representing Ward Four (an elected position) from January 1972 to April 1977, and she founded the Ward Four Council on Education. Ms. Mason was appointed to the Council of the District of Columbia on April 2, 1977, to fill the vacancy left by the death of Julius W. Hobson. She was elected in 1977 to completed the term and re-elected in 1978 for a full term. Mrs. Mason has been re-elected to the Council in 1982, 1986, 1990, and most recently, in November 1994.

David Van Williams
Statehood Congressman
U. S. House of Representatives

Mr. Van Williams was born in the Florida Panhandle and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. Mr. Van Williams first became directly involved with the DC Statehood Party when helped to organize the historic DC rights march on Northern Virginia that ended in front of Rep. Tom Davis’s house. Currently, Mr. Van Williams serves as an officer for Democracy in America’s Capital. Mr. Van Williams, a veteran, and a Journeyman Carpenter with sixteen years professional experience, serves as CEO and Construction Manager of a local construction company. He has been involved in various public service organizations, including President Carter's Atlanta Project and the NAACP in Florida and in Prince George's County; CRSD-GA.

Gail Dixon
School Board At-Large

Ms. Dixon is the current Vice Chairperson of the DC Statehood Party. She is also a co-founder and Chair of the DC Arts Education Foundation. Professionally, Ms. Dixon is the House Manager for the University of the District of Columbia Auditorium. Ms. Dixon served as Parent Liaison at the Duke Ellington School for the Arts. Additionally, Ms. Dixon sits on the board of WPFW-Radio Pacifica, and is a member of the Paul Robeson Society, the Friends of the Carter Barron, the Friends of Market 5 Gallery, the Artists Emergency Fund Benefit and District Curators.

Thomas E. Smith
ANC

Mr. Smith was born in Washington, DC. He is a single parent of a student at Dunbar High School. Mr. Smith himself also attended DC Public Schools and completed Anacostia High School in 1965. After completing a 4 year term in the United States Air Force, he attended the Federal City College, now known as the University of the District of Columbia. In Mr. Smith's professional life he was elected to the Model Neighborhood Action Board in Prince George's County; he worked with the Reading is Fundamental program in the District and is currently employed with the U.S. Postal Service.

For most of his adult life, Mr. Smith has been a progressive community activist. Mr. Smith has three main objectives in seeking the ANC Representative seat: ensuring the community's access to timely information; establishing public discussions and analysis of the forces and events that affect lives, money, children, housing and health, and setting himself as an example for children, demonstrating that a person from a disadvantaged background can help change the nature and substance of life for all the citizens of Washington, DC. Mr. Smith would use all possible venues to keep the people informed, including an internet web page.

Terri Greene
ANC 1-B9

Ms. Green is a native Washingtonian who attended District of Columbia public schools. She is currently employed at Sibley Memorial Hospital as an operation room technician. She has worked and volunteered in the area of health care for the past thirteen years. She is President of the Cardozo Senior High School Parent and Teachers Association, PTSA. She is a member of the Statehood Party, Shappe, WPDG. Area 2 Council and Founder of Class 2000 Committee. Her background in health care and academic affairs makes her an excellent candidate for Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner. Ms. Greene has vowed to put her community activitism to work to address children’s concerns and to contrast their concerns with the issues. Her first priority will be to improve the present lives of children. By improving the present standing of children within our schools and communities, many other problems will be positively impacted. Public safety, communication between youths, families, schools, regulators and enforcers, family containment, and social and economics going into the 21st century all encompass the neighborhood and are all issues about which she is concerned. Ms. Greene also advocates improvement to public services for the community. In furtherance of this goal, she would concentrate on communication and building working relations between community residents and public servants. Being the President of the PTSA has provided Ms. Greene with the ability to test her leadership skills and challenge her fortitude at a time when District leaders are searching for leaders everywhere.

Tracy Joyner
ANC 8-C

Ms. Joyner was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1967. Ms. Joyner has held positions at the Plaza Community Center, Amboy Neighborhood Advisory Board and has been actively involved with tenant groups. She was Recording Secretary for 1325 Tenant. Her experience includes coordinating for activities such as sports, choirs, poetry clubs, plays, and various trips for trouble-bound and wayward youth. Ms. Joyner has also been very involved with organizing tenant associations, creating tenant patrols, acting as liaison with the police and outside security firms to make provisions for safer neighborhoods.
