VISION

STATEHOOD FOR THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

Democracy in the District of Columbia is under severe attack. We must re-double our efforts to improve the functioning of our government so we can begin to address the root of the problem the lack of fundamental democratic rights for our citizens.

EDUCATION

Let us refocus our energy and strive to bring greater quality to our educational institutions and the educational experience of our young people. A strong public education system is one of the keys to a better future — for our children and the community as a whole. In every program from Head-start to graduate schools we need to forge a new commitment to excellence.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Let us expand our commitment to the revitalization of our downtown area and neighborhood commercial sectors by fully utilizing programs to foster small businesses in the District. And let us guarantee preparation and vocational training to young unskilled workers and priority employment and contracts to District workers and businesses.

TRANSPORTATION

Let us move to complete the Metro lines within the District, making it available to all District residents, and continue to improve bus service to under-served areas. We have one of the most efficient and quality mass transit systems in the country, and it must continue to grow with us.
