SS ON

EDUCATION Reduce class sizes, separation of disruptive students, enforce truancy laws, timely pay raises for teachers, walls in schools without walls, more emphasis on mentoring and tutoring, return vocational classes, and remove or replace ineffective teachers and principals.
CRIME Citizens friendly officers; increase foot patrol; responsive, well trained, professional officers; thorough back ground checks on applicants; more sensitive toward victims; and enforce loitering laws.
HOUSING Full disclosure on affordable housing, fair landlords, cooperative tenants, landlord and tenant forums, rental properties meet housing codes, expeditious court proceedings, and enforce laws to have vacant properties occupied.

WHAT I PLAN TO DO

  • Continue to publicize any wrongdoing by any elected official, government appointee and government employee.
  • Make impromptu visits to government agencies.
  • Set up phone lines so citizens can call and voice their yes or no vote on legislation and budget when it is before the Council.
  • BETTER city services will be supported for a productive city, through legislation and budget.
  • Set up board to review appointees’ resumes.
  • Initiate new youth programs (Sandra’s Kids).

WHAT I HAVE DONE

  • Assisted citizens in getting better city services.
  • Helped families raise money for burial expenses.
  • Wrote articles for the Washington Times Newspaper.
  • Sponsored youth poetry contest, with Freddie Mac as cosponsor.
  • Testified numerous times before the City Council.
  • Led recall on Mayor Marion Barry.
  • Exposed nepotism by the mayor when he hired a family member who was later dismissed.
  • Exposed DC Taxicab Commission chairperson for voter fraud. Individual was removed from the voter roll and dismissed as chairperson.
  • Led recall on former Ward 8 Councilmember Eydie Whittington. Found forged signatures on her nominating petitions. She lost the next election, and was prosecuted and found guilty of making false statements.
  • Found forged signatures on City Council candidate’s petitions. The case was sent to the US Attorney Office.
  • Forced US Attorney to take action on forged City Council candidate’s petitions.
  • Exposed contract abuse at the Department of Human Services. The director was removed.
  • Exposed unethical business practices by Ward 8 businessman. Contracts with the Department of Employment Services were forfeited.
  • Revealed ineptness of director of Office of Personnel. Individual was dismissed.
  • Exposed director of Department of Employment Services for mismanagement and unethical practices. Director was forced to resign.
  • First to report in my newsletter, “ONE PAGE AT A TIME” that former Police Chief Larry Soulsby was living in luxury at the tax payers’ expense.
  • Challenged fraud and misrepresentation on DC voter roll and was successful in having individuals removed.
  • Revealed 1,000 errors on the voter roll, which initiated Board of Elections and Ethics update of the roll.
  • Actively working to build a world-class Convention Center at Union Station North; to preserve the historic Shaw Community; and to help families kept their homes out of the hands of unethical developers, realtors and scammers.

  • Check newspapers for meetings and events concerning your community.
  • Report problem areas in your community, i.e., unsecured buildings, abandoned autos, excessive trash, street repairs, etc.
  • Write to my office about legislation or budget. (It does not have to be forma, or professionally done; it can be typed or handwritten, in ink, pencil, crayon or lipstick, just communicate with my office.)

BRIEF BIO

  1. Attended DC Public Schools: Amidon Elementary, Jefferson Junior High, and a graduate of Ballou Senior High School.
  2. Resident of Ward 8 (Congress Heights)
  3. Attended the Graduate School USDA for accounting
  4. Seven years of accounting, with Federal and District Governments.
  5. Worked as process server, private investigator and skip tracer.
  6. Community activists for 18 years and political activist for 6 years.
  7. Publisher and editor of a hard hitting newsletter, “ONE PAGE AT A TIME,” since 1995.
