dc pac
dc chamber of commerce

July 29,1998

Dear Fe1low Washingtonians:

The mission of the D.C. Chamber PAC is to promote the candidates for District office who will work towards a sound and stable economy where business can flourish and contribute to a healthy and safe community. Our next Mayor will have to work with many handicaps to bring the District to where it should be as the nation's capital. Recently, the Board of Trustees of this organization met and voted on our endorsement for Mayor. Although there are several qualified candidates. we chose a person who we feel can best create an agenda for the citizens of the District of Columbia.

That person must be sensitive to the diverse needs of the various Wards and to the opportunities before him to effectuate major change. For us, that person is JACK EVANS. Council Member Evans has demonstrated a strong record in the D.C. Council and has shown excellent executive ability in his chairmanship of Metro. He has taken on difficult issues and his record is consistent. Rather than endorse a representative from each party for the primary election, the Board chose to endorse only Mr. Evans.

For Chair of the D.C. Council, we feel that Linda Cropp has done an excellent job of managing the needs of each Council Member and has demonstrated an ability to build consensus on difficult issues. In Ward I we endorse Frank Smith. In fact Mr. Smith was the only Council race where we made an endorsement.

As to the race for Delegate to the U.S. Congress, we are prohibited from providing financial support, however, we can endorse a candidate for that office. With such in mind, we enthusiastically support Congresswoman Norton. She has represented the District well and we are proud that she speaks for us in the Congress.

It is the intention of the D.C. Chamber PAC to work diligently to elect the above slate of candidates. They have demonstrated an ability to lead us with great promise into the next century. Please join us in lending them your support and vote.

Very truly yours,

Adam R. Kidan
