MENDELSON RECEIVES ENDORSEMENT OF D.C. TENANTS’ ADVOCACY COALITION (TENAC)

Phil Mendelson, candidate for DC Council At-Large, has received the endorsement of the D.C. Tenants’ Advocacy Coalition (TENAC). TENAC, with a membership of over 75 tenant advocacy organizations, represents the interests of the largest voting block in the city, it’s renters.

“Phil Mendelson is one of the best candidates for Council in a long time. He is a multi-issue candidate, enlightened and progressive on all of them — not merely rent control and tenant rights, but on education, historic preservation, public safety, quality-of-life, and a host of others. This diversity stems in considerable part from his outstanding chairmanship of ANC-3C and his seven years as a staffer for both Dave Clarke and Jim Nathanson,” stated James McGrath, TENAC Coordinator.

Phil’s record on tenants rights issues includes being a leader of the tenant association at McLean Gardens that fought to prevent mass evictions in the 1 970's and that became one of the first, and remains the largest-ever, tenant purchase of rental housing in the city.

“This endorsement, and that of the Metropolitan Washington Labor Council, shows my support extends to the entire District. The issues I have actively promoted throughout my 23 years as a community activist have struck a cord with people who care about tenants’ rights, job security, good wages and good working conditions. I have a track record of accomplishing real results. I am proud to be a endorsed candidate of TENAC,” said Mendelson.

Paid for by the “Mendelson for Council” committee, Helen C. Epps, Treasurer. A copy of our report is filed with the Director of Campaign Finance of the D. C. Board of Elections and Ethics.
