PHIL MENDELSON FOR D. C. COUNCIL
AT-LARGE
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA NURSES ASSOCIATION ENDORSES MENDELSONThe District of Columbia Nurses Association (DCNA) has announced its decision to endorse Phil Mendelson for the Democratic nomination for DC Council At-Large. This is the fourth major endorsement of Mendelsons candidacy, and the first by any health-profession group for any candidate in the crowded At-Large race. We think Phil Mendelson is well-qualified to be the next At-large Council member, and the best person to protect the rights of health professionals and patients in the District, and that's why we are endorsing him, said Karen Scipio-Skinner, Legislative Director of DCNA. DCNA is the voluntary professional organization for RNs who live and/or work in the District. DCNA represents 4,000 health care professionals. In addition to endorsing Mendelson, DCNA is endorsing Kathy Patterson (Ward 3) and Sharon Ambrose (Ward 6) in their respective primaries. Mendelson has received more endorsements to date than any other candidate in the At- Large race. On July 20th Mendelson won a unanimous vote of endorsement by the Metropolitan Washington Council AFL-CIO, a coalition of over 175 public and private sector unions. On July 23rd he received the endorsement of the D.C. Tenants' Advocacy Coalition (TENAC), which has a membership of over 75 tenant advocacy organizations. And on July 30th Mendelson was endorsed by the Sierra Club (New Columbia Chapter), with over 2700 members in the District. These endorsements distinguish my candidacy from others by showing broad support across the city and among diverse groups. The Nurses endorsement, in particular, reflects my commitment to adequate health care in the District. I am honored by DCNAs support, says Mendelson. |
