A neighborhood story that may affect the way you vote next Tuesday.

“...voters should know how much Jim Graham’s done for our community and people like my son.”

Dear Neighbor:

I wanted to share with you a story about my son, Meka, and his wonderful experience with Jim Graham and the organization he runs, the Whitman-Walker Clinic. It’s an important story because Jim Graham is running for the City Council in Ward One, and voters should know how much good Jim’s done for our community and people like my son.

Meka passed away on June 2, 1992. It was the saddest day of my life. But I took comfort in knowing that some of the happiest days of Meka’s life took place while he was cared for and worked with the Whitman-Walker Clinic.

When Meka first became ill, he was in real trouble. He didn’t have insurance and he couldn’t otherwise get the treatment he needed. Jim Graham and the Whitman-Walker Clinic came to the rescue. At no personal cost, Meka was provided with excellent medical care including even eyeglasses and dental care. It didn’t stop there. The Clinic also helped Meka with the resources he needed to put together a home for recovering drug addicts. Thanks to the Clinic, Meka spent the last years of his life helping drug addicts put their lives back together.

In my 35 years as a resident of Ward One, I have rarely seen the kind of generosity and compassion provided by Jim Graham and Whitman-Walker Clinic to my son. Jim Graham truly cares about people like me and Meka. I hope you will join me next Tuesday, September 15, to vote for Jim Graham for Ward One City Council.

Sincerely,

Leontine Wynn
