As a city councilman, Kevin Chavous has worked hard for affordable higher education, access to health care services, programs for seniors, and protections for working families.

WORKING FAMILIES
  • Supports collective bargaining and opposes cuts in workers’ and unemployment compensation.
  • Supports expanded and affordable public transportation.
  • Fired 164 workers without notice, accepted a $20,000 bonus, and gave his staff $17,250 in bonuses.
  • Proposed raising bus fares and eliminating 12 routes in the metropolitan area.
EDUCATION
  • Supports increased funding for UDC and fought drastic budget cuts proposed by Williams.
  • Proposed dismantling UDC and turning it into “a 2-year community college.”
HEALTH CARE
  • Fought to restore funding for DC General Hospital and is committed to improving health services across the city.
  • Tried to eliminate funding to DC General Hospital, which would have forced the hospital to close its doors.
SENIORS
  • Fought for continued funding of the DC Office of Aging, which serves over 37,000 seniors each year.
  • Proposed eliminating the Office on Aging.
