As a committed community leader, Kevin Chavous. . .

has deep roots in the community, fighting for neighborhoods, senior citizens, our youth and critical city services such as DC General hospital. Married to native Washingtonian, Attorney Beverly Bass Chavous, and raising two sons in the southeast neighborhood of Hillcrest, Chavous has worked for nearly 20 years on DC neighborhood issues. A graduate of Howard University Law School, Chavous has provided free legal counsel for civic groups, served on the DC Statehood Compact Commission and is on the national board for Handgun Control, Inc.

As city councilmember, Kevin Chavous. . .

has sponsored or cosponsored over 130 pieces of legislation, including laws to shut crack houses, rid the city of abandoned cars, restrict issuance of new liquor licenses and regulate trash transfer stations. As a councilmember, Kevin Chavous fought for senior citizens and summer jobs when the control board tried to cut them.

As Mayor, Kevin Chavous. . .

will reform city government and services for you, not Congress. Kevin will not cut programs for the young, the poor or the elderly to appease a Republican Congress. He will ensure that our children, from their earliest years, have equal access to a quality education. He will continue his strong support for the University of the District of Columbia and rebuild the police department to be responsive to the communities they serve.
