HAROLD BRAZIL FOR MAYOR OF DC
1630 CONNECTICUT AVENUE NW 4TH FLOOR

Position of Harold Brazil On The Death Penalty

Councilmember Harold Brazil (Dem. At-Large) holds the firm belief That the United States Congress should not impose its will on the people of the Distnct of Columbia especially on matters of the death penalty.

When Councilmember Carol Schwartz (Rep. At-Large) introduced a bill to the DC City Council that was presented to the Judiciary Committee calling for the death penalty, Mr. Brazil voted “present”. The bill died in Committee. Mr. Brazil maintains that the will of the people of the District of Columbia should be the ultimate arbitor in such matters. The people have spoken, rather loudly, in a city wide referendum on the matter of the death penalty. There are no attempts, at present, to place the matter before the Citizens of the District of Columbia.
