Statement for Immediate Release Tuesday, July 23, 2002 Mayor Williams Appoints Theodore Carter Campaign Manager(Washington, DC) I am pleased to announce that I have appointed Theodore Carter as campaign manager for my Re-Election Committee. His appointment signals a new beginning for this campaign. Ted represents the values and commitments of my administration. He brings proven leadership, management and experience having served four mayors in several cities including Washington, D.C. Ted will resign from his current position as senior advisor to the chief financial advisor for the District of Columbia. He will assume the position of campaign manager beginning Monday, July 29th. He will oversee, integrate and direct the daily operations of the campaign. Prior to joining my administration, Ted served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Management Operations at the Department of Treasury where he led financial and management oversight for the agency’s law enforcement bureaus and five corporate business units. In 1996, he was the Deputy Campaign Manager & Chief Operating Officer for former President Clinton’s re-election campaign. Ted has participated in a number of political campaigns at the local level. He is a trusted and valued advisor and will lead the campaign with my full participation and complete confidence. Ted has the operational experience and political knowledge to lead and build an effective campaign that will guide us to victory in September and energize voters in November. I will be fully focused and engaged in this campaign. I have learned some valuable lessons these past several weeks. During this campaign, I will engage the citizens of Washington in every ward on my record and outline a strong vision for the future of our nation’s Capitol. |
