WHEN THEY
DENY OUR RIGHTS,

WHO IS FIGHTING
FOR
US?

SENATOR PAUL STRAUSS, THAT’S WHO!

The citizens of Washington DC pay federal taxes. We serve our country in the military. We work hard, and we obey federal laws. But we are denied that most basic of American rights: to be represented in the Congress. The same Congress than can overturn our city's laws and change our local budget at whim.

That's wrong. And it's why DC voters created the non-paid office of Shadow Senator to lobby the U.S. Senate on DC's behalf. Our Shadow Senator Paul Strauss fights for us when the District's fate is being debated in Congress.

Throughout his first term, Paul has been battling a hostile Republican Congress to fight for our civil rights — a tough job when DC's interests are constantly under attack.

HE’S GETTING RESULTS

Imagine running a Senate office with no salary, no money for staff and no vote. Impossible? Look what Paul Strauss has achieved through hard work and persistence.

  • Paul Strauss fought for and won the first Senate DC budget bill without right-wing social policy mandates on our city since the Republican taxover in 1994.
  • Working with Eleanor Holmes Norton, Paul Strauss helped organize for the first Senate Committee hearing on a DC voting rights bill since 1993.
  • Paul Strauss focused worldwide media coverage on DC's lack of voting rights and statehood by orchestrating numerous "Taxation without Representation" protests.
  • He raised private funds to run a constituent service office that helps DC residents with local concerns; and staffed it by implementing a unique internship/job program to get young people involved in the voting rights issue and serving the community.
  • Paul Strauss helped stop Congress from repealing our gun control laws and imposing the death penalty on District residents against the wishes of DC voters.

WHENEVER THE SENATE DEBATED ISSUES AFFECTING OUR CITY
WHENEVER THE VOTING RIGHTS MOVEMENT NEEDED A LEADER

PAUL HAS BEEN THERE — FIGHTING FOR US.
