DEMOCRATS AND INDEPENDENTS SHOW SUPPORT FOR MAYORAL CANDIDATE CAROL SCHWARTZ

(Washington, DC) Democrats and Independents from around the city were on hand today to show their support for Carol Schwartz’s campaign for Mayor. More than 100 people gathered at the Schwartz campaign headquarters in Petworth, in what turned out to be a spirited rally for their choice for Mayor. After Councilmember Schwartz made her remarks, more than a dozen supporters, representing every ward in the city, gave passionate testimonials about why they as Democrats and Independents were supporting Schwartz for Mayor.

Daisy Olarotimi, a resident of Regency House, a public housing facility for seniors and the disabled in Ward 3, thanked Schwartz for her work in improving the crosswalks and streetlights around Regency House so that the residents could have better access to public transportation.

June Roxborough Fowler, a resident of Ward 4, said that she was one of those who called and asked Councilmember Schwartz to run. Ms. Fowler says she doesn’t vote strictly by party affiliation, but for who she thinks is the best person for the job. Freida Murray, a resident of the District for more than 50 years who lives in Ward 8, agreed that Schwartz would be a capable and accessible Mayor.

Conrad P. Smith of Ward 1 said that Councilmember Schwartz has an unblemished political record and is an ideal candidate for Mayor, and Lorraine Whitlock, Convener of the Deanwood Gardens Alliance and lifelong District resident, said that residents in her community in Ward 7 told her that she needs to do everything she can to help get Schwartz elected.

Schwartz said, "I didn’t think that this would turn into such a warm, affectionate gathering, but it did, and I am glad for the support of Democrats, Independents and people of any party affiliation."

"The residents of the District know that I am accessible, and that while I believe in fiscal accountability, I also have compassion for every one of the residents of our city and want them to have the services they deserve," added Schwartz.

Schwartz has received endorsements from the Georgetown Current, Northwest Current, Dupont Current and the InTowner, as well as the Log Cabin Republicans of D.C.
