Press Release

MPOA Endorses Councilmember Kathy Patterson For Ward 3 City Council Seat

On Wednesday, July 31, 2002, the membership of the Metropolitan Police Officials Association "MPOA" gave its endorsement to Ward 3 Councilmember Kathy Patterson in her bid for re-election on the Council of the District of Columbia.

As the Chairperson of the Council’s Committee on the Judiciary, Councilmember Patterson has worked tirelessly to address the myriad issues that impact on the quality of life of residents, business owners, employees and visitors alike. To that end, she has dedicated herself to maximizing the efficiency of the Metropolitan Police Department. Her efforts have significantly contributed to the overall improvement in the delivery of police services in the District of Columbia over the past several years.

From the perspective of our membership, Councilmember Patterson’s accessibility, willingness to tackle difficult issues, and interest in developing appropriate, achievable solutions are just some of the characteristics that make her the ideal candidate to further our interests and those of the community we serve – the citizens of the District of Columbia.

The MPOA looks forward to continuing our working relationship with Councilmember Patterson. We are confident that she will continue to serve the District of Columbia with distinction for many years to come. The MPOA strongly urges the Ward 3 community to re-elect Kathy Patterson to the Council of the District of Columbia, where she can continue our shared desire to improve public safety and the delivery of other city services.

The MPOA, a voluntary organization, was established in 1975 to represent the interests of those police officials of the Metropolitan Police Department not covered by the District’s public sector collective bargaining provisions. Our membership consists of the officials serving in the ranks of Lieutenant, Captain, Inspector, Commander, and Assistant Chief of Police.

Philip Lanciano
President
MPOA
