MENDELSON WINS WARD 8 DEMOCRATS ENDORSEMENT
- FIFTH MAJOR ENDORSEMENT FOR CAMPAIGN -
(Washington, DC) - Councilmember Phil Mendelson today gained the endorsement of the Ward 8 Democrats for his re-election as At-Large
Councilmember. Mendelson won the required "super majority" of 60% in a field of six candidates. The Ward 8 Democrats are the first of the
eight DC ward Democratic organizations to make an endorsement in this year's
election.
"I take seriously my duty to represent the entire city," said Mendelson at Ketcham Elementary School, site of the endorsement forum. "I care
deeply about east of the river issues, and this endorsement reflects my involvement in those issues of concern to the residents of Ward 8."
Mendelson went on to say, "This victory and the other endorsements I've received show the diverse support I have across the city."
After announcing the endorsement Phillip E. Pannell, President of Ward 8 Democrats, said, "As a councilmember Phil Mendelson has been very
attentive to the needs of the people of Ward 8. This endorsement indicates Phil's support in our ward."
The Ward 8 endorsement is the latest addition to a growing list of organizations backing At-Large Councilmember Phil Mendelson's bid for
re-election. Organized labor has thrown its support to Mendelson. On Earth Day 2002 the Sierra Club announced its endorsement of Mendelson
as an environmental leader. In May, the Gertrude Stein Democratic Club endorsed Mendelson, and DOCPAC, on behalf of doctor members of
the D.C. Medical Society, voted to endorse Mendelson. |
