Chavous States that “Barry Should Not Run at This Time”

Official Statement:

“I’ve known Marion for a long time. I can understand why he would want to run considering the deliberate neglect of some portions of this City, and the lack of commitment to neighborhood revitalization by the current administration. I’ve always respected his commitment to public service, his love for the City, fight for home rule, and his legacy as a civil rights activist. No one can deny the tremendous strides of success he and the City made during his early years as Mayor. However, his best contributions today would be in a role other than in elected office. Therefore, I believe it would be in the best interest of Barry not to run at this time.”
