COUNCILMEMBER SHARON AMBROSE ELECTION CAMPAIGN KICKOFF IN WARD 6

Saturday, May 11th, marked the kick-off of Sharon Ambrose’s Re-election Campaign for the Ward 6 Seat on the District of Columbia City Council. Over 300 Ward 6 residents from throughout the Ward turned out at the Old Naval Hospital to show their support for Sharon. Many new supporters were present from the recently redistricted Southwest Waterfront and Northwest neighborhoods. The morning crowd was energized by the glorious sounds of the 40 member Community Action Group (CAG) Gospel Choir and Ensemble.

After an opening program by the CAG Choir, the kick-off began with a welcoming speech by Councilmember Ambrose. Sharon welcomed the new members of Ward 6 and called upon all of us to embrace our diversity through unity and to meet the many new changes that are occurring in Ward 6. Sharon cited the multitude of improvements and developments in the Ward including the Southwest Waterfront, the fight against nuisance properties, affordable Hope 6 Housing developments, the recently awarded Main Street grants to H Street N.E. & 8th Street S.E. and numerous other accomplishments and issues.

Special guests that spoke to the audience in support of Sharon included: Local 36 Firefighters President Ray Sneed, F.O.P President G.G. Neal, The Gertrude Stein Democratic Club President Kurt Vorndron, Commander Dreher of the 1st District, and City Councilmembers Patterson, Evans and Catania. Additionally, present in their support include: National Vice President David Schlein of AFGE District 14, DC Democrat State Committee Vice Chair Pat Elwoood, Ward 6 Democrat President Michael Patterson and Vice President June Johnson, and ANC Chairs Ken Jarboe, Andy Litsky, Keith Jarrell and other prominent ANC Commissioners.

It should be noted that Councilmember Ambrose has already received the organization endorsements of The Gertrude Stein Democratic Club and the Fraternal Order of Police.
