ANY CHILDREN? GRANDCHILDREN? I am the proud parent of three children, all of whom attended D.C. public schools throughout their pre-college years. Each has gone on to begin successful careers – Stephanie, 32, as a lawyer for New York Legal Aid; Hilary, 30, as a marketing executive for USA Today in New York; and Douglas, 28, as a journalist and Internet talk show host in London, England.

WHY ARE YOU MORE QUALIFIED THAN YOUR OPPONENT(S) TO HOLD THIS OFFICE? (Please limit your answer to 100 words.) I have a strong and proven history of service to this city. During my first term on the Council (1985-89), I spoke out – and voted – against the bloated budgets, the tax increases, and the rampant, unproductive spending. Since returning to the Council in 1997, I have worked hard to fix what was broken and to ensure that our finances never get out of control again. Citizens of the District know me to be honest, caring, dependable, open-minded, accessible, responsive, and serious about my responsibilities as an elected official. I will remain true to them and to our city if re-elected.
