PETE ROSSCANDIDATE FOR WARD 2 COUNCILMEMBER
12 August 2000 Dear Neighbor, I am writing to introduce myself to you as a candidate for the position of DC City Councilman for Ward 2. First, I would like to tell you about my family and myself. My wife, Marsha, and I purchased our home here in Washington, DC in 1974 when I was a lieutenant in the US Army Ordnance Corps. After leaving the military as a Captain, we moved into our home in June 1976, where we have lived for the last 24 years. We have 5 boys, Steven 24, Robbie 23, David 21, Jeffrey 19, and Marc 15. 1 own a furniture manufacturing business located in northeast Washington. I have been a member of the Foxhall Community Citizens Association (FCCA) for the past 20 years. As a member of FCCA, I spearheaded the community effort in Foxhall Village to replace dead trees with cherry blossom trees along our streets and traffic circles. Residents of Foxhall Village are proud of the contributions we have made to the beautification of our community. My reason for running for office is that I feel very strongly that our neighborhood interests are misrepresented. Our Councilman has promoted the interests of the business community very well, but he has done very little to promote and defend the issues that residents have raised and fought for throughout the Ward. We residents know that we do not have a voice in decisions that impact our neighborhoods, and I want to change that. My motto is NEIGHBORHOODS FIRST. Ward 2 needs a representative who is not beholden to the developers, the universities, the hotel magnates, the restauranteurs and bar owners, and the large corporate interests who wield power behind the scenes and overwhelm the interests of residents. Since our ward encompasses the heart of the City as well as the Southwest and Georgetown waterfronts, we need a Councilmember who recognizes the need to balance business interests with the interests of residents. Special interest contributions should not be the driving force behind every decision that affects the lives of those of us who call Ward 2 our home. Please call me at 202-246-0000 or visit my web site, www.ward2.com, if you also believe that your interests are not well served by the incumbent. We cannot afford four more years of misrepresentation. Please join the effort to give Ward 2 the representation that we deserve. Sincerely yours, |
