The draft Candidate in Brief

Daphne M. McBryde is a daughter of the District of Columbia and is a professional municipal officer with a demonstrated history - 15 years - of achieving results in complex public and private sector organizations. Ms. McBryde offers to the residents of the District of Columbia 11 years in government operations, the last, five of which were served in the executive levels of government, with six-year prior service working in the Legislative branch of government (U. S. Congress), and the District of Columbia Courts. Prior to her government service she served in the accounting and the banking professions.

Ms. McBryde's professional experience is very comprehensive in scope. She will bring to the Council of the District of Columbia knowledge in budgeting, accounting, audit, performance reporting, and treasury operations. Her hands-on experience also includes policy analysis, strategic planning, and workflow and process reengineering. Ms. McBryde holds a Master degree in Public Administration, an undergraduate degree in Communications, and she has pursued advance studies in a Law, Justice and Society program. She is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, and was honored with a national fellowship to study issues in government.

Service Accomplishments:

  • Executed the Congressional and local mandate for a performance accountability strategy is the District of Columbia.
  • Trained over 100 executives and managers on performance measurement
  • Project Manager developing the District of Columbia Management Reform Initiatives
  • Team Leader for the District of Columbia Inter-Agency Action Plan
  • Implemented cost efficiency project resulting in $2 million dollar savings
  • Linked millions of grant dollars from federal funding sources to the District of Columbia government, community development corporations, economic development corporations, small and minority busing, and non profit organizations.
  • Provided case management to criminal defendants in the District of Columbia

  • Served as the 1996 Director for the District of Columbia Democratic Coordinated Campaign
  • Chaired the Women Information Network's (WIN), 1997 Women Opening Doors for Women (WODW)
  • Elected as the 1996 National Urban Rural Fellows Speaker
  • Served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for abused and neglected children
  • Counseled behaviorally disturbed youth in the District of Columbia
  • Tutored at-risk children in the District of Columbia
  • Served as a public spokesperson for a campaign to reduce illiteracy
  • Led a petition drive to end crime and prostitution on the streets in the District of Columbia
  • Chaired the United Nations Children's Fund local campaign drive
  • Led in a nationwide effort to educate Americans about the economical and political situations in Africa.
  • Served as a campaign volunteer for Statehood in the District of Columbia
