Letter to Ward 7 Citizens, August 2000

PLACE WARD SEVEN FIRST VOTE FOR HUNTER
#4 ON THE BALLOT
LIFT WARD SEVEN UP

ROBERT B. HUNTER

DEMOCRAT FOR COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA — WARD 7

Robert B. Hunter

Dear Ward Seven Citizen:

On Tuesday, September 12, I ask for your vote to serve as your Ward Seven representative on the Council of the District of Columbia. I will need your support to share with me the work of representation. We shall work together for this Ward.

Together, in Ward Seven, we must remove the blight of abandoned buildings and uncollected trash. We must work to demand needed repairs to our streets and alleys. We must create a community where young men and women can have such meaningful work and life that they do not seek escape into addiction. We must re-vitalize Ward Seven as a community that is safe for children and senior adults. We must improve the quality of life for all of our citizens.

Sadly, in Ward Seven, we have lost the Civil Right to have an elected member from our Ward on the Board of Education. If you elect me as your new Council Member, I will represent the children of this Ward and City by demanding first class per pupil funding for our school system. The present per pupil funding to employ teachers, to educate our children, is second class funding. Our funding is $2,000.00 below the first class per pupil funding paid in Montgomery County and in Alexandria, Virginia. Surely our children in the District must receive the equality of fall first class funding. Then we could return art, music and vocational classes to our schools.

In Ward Seven, there is a need for our member of the Council to be actively engaged with the advisory neighborhood commissioners and the civic associations. To work upon the problems in our community provides the opportunity to engage us together in the work, duties and rights of citizenship.

May I have your consideration and vote to serve as your member on the Council of the District of Columbia from Ward Seven. My name, Robert B. Hunter, is #4 on the Democratic ballot.

For us,
Robert B. Hunter
