Neighborhoods

Dupont Circle

  • No more private-club liquor licenses in residential neighborhoods
  • Begin again the redevelopment planning process of the Dupont Circle Underground

Foggy Bottom

  • Stop city tax bonds for wealthy institutions
  • Stop the sale of District-owned property for commercial use, specifically Engine Company #1 and the 2dd District Police Sub Station

Georgetown & Burleith

  • No profit-making development by Med-Star Health at the Georgetown Hospital site
  • Increase resident input concerning disbursement of city-owned school properties

Logan Circle & Blagden Alley

  • Eliminate prostitution and consistently enforce laws that seize the automobiles of prospective Johns
  • Targeted outreach initiative to the homeless population with the ultimate goal of bettering their lives and reducing the impact on quality of life

Shaw, Northwest One, & Chinatown

  • Stop further Convention Center and new hotel development intrusion into residential neighborhood
  • Increase employment opportunities at the Convention Center construction site and the finished site for Shaw residents
  • Turn on the lights at Kennedy Playground and Shaw Junior High recreation facilities and keep them on until 10 pm
  • Develop a new outdoor swimming facility
  • Eliminate open-air drug markets by addressing the root causes of the problem and demand consistent police enforcement
  • Seize nuisance properties of negligent landlords

Southwest

  • Revitalize Waterside Mall and the Southwest Waterfront into a "Main Street" shopping district
  • Renovate Landsburg Park into a state-of-the-art recreational facility
  • Expand the Arts and Theatre District into Southwest

Issues

Housing & Home Ownership

Support market-rate housing in Foggy Bottom, Chinatown, Logan Circle, and the Southwest communities that meet the historic neighborhood character

Increase homeownership opportunities in Logan Circle and address resident and community concerns at Claridge Towers, Horizon House, James Apartments, Frontier Housing Dwellings, and the 1400 block of R Street

Introduce legislation to increase university student home ownership

Parking

Improve parking by supporting changes proposed by Georgetown's Neighborhood Pilot Parking Program and Logan Circle's Parking Task Force

Engage local churches to assist in parking relief on weekends

Seniors

Support new assisted living facilities in Foggy Bottom, Shaw, and the Southwest communities

Improve living conditions and outreach in public housing complexes

Increase job training and employment opportunities for Youth and Seniors as part of local economic development initiatives

City Government

Improve health, housing, and sanitation inspection procedures

Keep weekly constituent service hours at scheduled locations across Ward 2

Youth

Improve youth employment, job training, and recreational outreach initiatives

Support the creation of a policy-driven and productive school board that is an asset to the learning environment

Economic Development

Support continued vibrant and diverse development on Connecticut Avenue, 17th Street, 14th Street, 7th Street, and the Theatre District

Promote and increase opportunities to establish more resident-owned small businesses

Historic Preservation

Preserve and protect historic landmarks and the historic character of Dupont, Foggy Bottom, Georgetown, Burleith, Shaw, and all of Ward 2

Gay & Lesbian Community

Hold an annual townhall meeting to address Gay and Lesbian concerns

Require complete and thorough hate crimes investigations

Champion the development of new assisted living communities for Gay men and Lesbians

Latino Community

Establish the first Ward 2 Latino Task Force to address the needs and concerns of Ward 2's growing Latino population

100-Day Plan

In my first 100 days, I pledge the following

#1 Develop a task force on university impact and expansion into residential neighborhoods in Foggy Bottom and Georgetown

#2 Establish a task force, with an outside facilitator, to review differences concerning Dupont Circle residents and business owners and DC government agencies with the ultimate goal of proposing a comprehensive resolution plan

#3 Improve resident notification concerning bridge and street closings

#4 Plan and begin the beautification of one of Burleith's only open green spaces, Ellington Athletic Field

#5 Bring mechanical street sweeping to Southwest neighborhoods
