Robert G. Childs, Candidate for
President of the DC Board of Education in the
November 7, 2000, General Election

Letter to Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners, October 2000

THE COMMITTEE TO ELECT CHILDS
PRESIDENT OF THE D.C. BOARD OF EDUCATION
P.O. BOX 60942
WASHINGTON, D.C. 20059-0942

October 5, 2000

Dear Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner:

Please allow me to introduce myself. I am the father of three children; one (1) graduated in June of this year from a D.C. public school, and two (2) are presently enrolled in a D.C. public school. I have been an active parent in the schools of all three of my children, from pre-kindergarten through each level. I am a former Youth Minister and the current Pastor of Berean Baptist Church in Northwest D.C. I am a cue's advocate, and have more than twenty-five years of experience in leading, direr and supervising young people's programs. I am also currently President, and an At-Large Representative of the D. C. Board of Education.

Four years ago, the citizens of the District of Columbia overwhelmingly gave me a vote of confidence to serve as an At-Large Member on the D.C. Board of Education to represent all students of the District of Columbia. Immediately after taking office, the Financial Control Board stripped the Board of Education of its powers, but I never wavered in my commitment to our children. In January 2001, the Control Board will restore full power to the D. C. Board of Education and I would like to continue serving in my present position. Therefore, I have decided to run for PRESIDENT OF TIE D.C. BOARD OF EDUCATION under the newly revised structure. In order to this, I will need your help on November 7th to work as a precinct captain and to pass out literature.

I am STILL on a mission for our children. I STILL want to guarantee that all children are benefiting from a quality public education. We must pull together and continue to unite all persons involved in the education of our children as well as community leader's and organizations. Together we can work to assure that our children will receive a fist class education, in first class schools, with first class resources.

Please contact my Campaign Manager, Mrs. Alma D. Gibbs, at (202) 529-6555 if you are able to support me on November 7th.

Respectfully yours
Reverend Robert G. Childs
