PRESIDENT OF THE D.C. BOARD OF EDUCATION

Reverend Childs is STILL on a Mission for the Children:

To oversee the quality of education received by all the students of the District of Columbia
To be an enlightened, active, and responsible member of the D.C. Board of Education
To make responsible decisions in the best interest of the students, parents, teachers, administrators, staff, and residents/community constituents of the District of Columbia
To set and enforce fair & equitable policies, while being responsible for assuring fiscal accountability

FOR THE CHILDREN. . .
We must have safe and secure schools
FOR THE CHILDREN. . .
We must follow through on the present plan to build new schools; and replace & modernize old schools; we must have a repair and maintenance plan.
FOR THE CHILDREN. . .
We must continue to recruit and hold on to our good teachers and administrators, secure their jobs and give them incentives to stay; we must also offer more ongoing teacher training programs
FOR THE CHILDREN. . .
We must make sure that curriculums are effective and meeting the needs of our children
FOR THE CHILDREN. . .
We must strengthen our vocational and adult education programs
FOR THE CHILDREN. . .
We must strengthen our programs for children with special needs
FOR THE CHILDREN. . .
We must have strong fine arts & athletic programs
FOR THE CHILDREN. . .
We must seek more sources to help students go on to higher education
FOR THE CHILDREN. . .
We must include more substance abuse programs, and programs that address grief and loss
FOR THE CHILDREN...
We must encourage more parent participation, and offer more parent support programs & counselors
FOR THE CHILDREN...
We must find creative and alternative ways to generate funds; and more persistently lobby the Mayor, City Council, Control Board and Congress
FOR THE CHILDREN...
We must have a good working relationship with all district and federal agencies
FOR THE CHILDREN. . .
The Board of Education, The Superintendent, Principals, Teachers, Staff; Parents and District, Community & Labor/Union Leaders must work as a TEAM

Rev. Childs, a children's advocate, is currently President and an At-Large representative of the D.C. Board of Education, and has more than 25 years of experience in leading, directing and supervising young people's programs. He has been married for 20 years, and is the father of 3 children. One (1) a graduate of, and two (2) who are presently enrolled in D.C. Public Schools. He is also the Senior Pastor of Berean Baptist Church in Northwest D. C. He has earned Bachelor and Master Degrees, and is working to obtain the Ph.D. He has been a lecturer and Adjunct Professor in the Howard University School of Divinity for the last 15 years. For more than 14 years, he has hosted a teaching ministry broadcast every Saturday at 1:00 p.m. on Radio Station WYCB-1340 AM in D.C.
