WASHINGTON TEACHERS’ UNION ENDORSES RAY BROWNE FOR U.S. REPRESENTATIVE (SHADOW)

WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 15, 2000) – “We have confidence in your leadership and will work for your success in the election,” the Washington Teachers’ Union, Local 6, AFT, AFL-CIO, told Ray Browne in endorsing him for U.S. Representative (Shadow). Lynwood F. Williamson, coordinator of the Union’s Committee on Political Education, told Browne that, “We stand ready to assist your campaign in getting out the vote on Election Day.”

“It is a great honor and privilege that the educators of our City have endorsed me,” said Ray Browne. “When I think of the sacrifices these
men and women make on behalf of the students of our City, it is gratifying to know that they stand ready to work with me to make our City an even better place to live. I know the teachers join with me in fighting for voting representation for DC in the U.S. Congress and I will work hard toward that goal as your U.S. Representative (Shadow).”

Browne said he would use the office to rally the city in support of voting representation. And, he would use that outcry to carry the message to citizens all across the country, creating a “grassroots” network of support for full representation in Congress. Others endorsing Browne include the Ward 2 and 3 Democrats, DC Councilmembers Kevin Chavous, Jack Evans and Harold Brazile, former councilmembers Bill Lightfoot and John Ray, ANC Chair 1B Lawrence Guyot, Democratic National Committeewoman Barbara Lett Simmons, President of the Ward 4 Democratic Committee Norm Neverson and many others.

Browne is a native of the District of Columbia, growing up in the Trinidad section of the City, and he has a long and impressive record of successes in both the private and public sectors. He lives with his wife, Barbara, and their two children in Northwest DC.
