A PROPOSED RESOLUTION IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

To confirm the appointment of Mr. Robert L.E. Egger to the Comprehensive Housing Strategy Task Force.

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this resolution may be cited as the "Comprehensive Housing Strategy Task Force Robert L.E. Egger Confirmation Resolution of 2004".

Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia confirms the appointment of:

as a citizen representative member of the Comprehensive Housing Strategy Task Force, established by section 2 of the Comprehensive Housing Strategy Temporary Act of 2003, effective December 9, 2003 (D.C. Sec. 3. The Council of the District of Columbia shall transmit a copy of this resolution, upon its adoption, each to the nominee and to the Office of the Mayor. 

Sec. 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately.

d.c. central kitchen

Robert L.E. Egger

1989-Present; President of DC Central Kitchen, Inc.
The kitchen is a nationaily recognized 501(c)(3) "community corporation" and the model program for the "community kitchen" movement At the kitchen, foods donated from area restaurants, hotels and caterers are combined, by men and women enrolled in a 12-week culinary arts training program, to create over 4,000 meals everyday. Since 1989, the Kitchen has distributed 15 million meals, allowing 150 local direct service agencies to direct millions of dollars towards services rather than food, while training and placing over 500 previously unemployed men and women in foodservice jobs. The Kitchen currently employs 55 people. It operates two revenue generating businesses, including Fresh Start, its highly regarded catering many. Through Kitchens In National Cooperation (www.kitchensinc.org), the Kitchen supports the efforts of over 75 similar community kitchens in cities across the US_ Most recently, through the Campus Kitchen Project (www.campuskitchens.org), the Kitchen has opened or helped establish 20 similar kitchens in underutilized cafeterias in high school and colleges throughout the US.

October 2002-July 2003; Interim Executive Vice President of United Way of the National Capital Area Assumed interim leadership of the local chapter during time of significant internal and external crisis, Led the transition of the organization, including the replacement of the entire Board of Directors and the revision of the bilaws. Downsized the budget by 2.5 million dollars and reduced the staff by 40% while directing an overhaul of the organizations impact agenda and communications strategies.
