How, after all these years of testifying to the Mayor and Counsel could parents get funding committed to basic school improvements? Parents owe it all to the law firm of Steptoe and Johnson, Alfred Mamlet, Barbara Kagan and Andrea Evans, counsel. Their steadfast commitment was our "ace in the hole!" We didn't have to "drop it!" Now our CEO and Board of Trustees have more of the resources our schools need than they would ever have had without our efforts.

Dear Friend of Parents United,
Now that we have settled the fire code suit, we ask each of you to help us oversee our children's safety and the continued repair and upgrading of our school facilities.
We must all work together to ensure that the settlement indeed results in safer, better school buildings.
And now it's time to get on with the business of improving the education our children receive. Last night some of you joined us to meet with Dr. Arlene Ackerman, the new Chief Academic Officer and begin a dialogue about the ways in which we can bring quality education into more D.C. public schools.
We have very much appreciated your calls, your suggestions, and your information during the last few months. Now we need your financial support as well. We have been so busy working to resolve the facilities issues that we had little time to devote to fund-raising. Our budget is in bad shape!
If you and your school have sent in a contribution to Parents United since school started, we thank you very much. If you haven't, please do so now. We need your help to get us through the rest of this year.
We need something from everyone - whatever you can give! Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
Elder Wellborn, Treasurer
